So you are finally engaged! How very exciting!! You’ve set a date and booked your location… now its time to start looking for a photographer, but wait…. How do you choose!? There are endless options to choose from, how on earth do you narrow it down!? Here are a few tips to help you choose the right photographer for you.
Style & Image Quality
First of all you want to choose a photographer who’s style you LOVE!! Does the photographer have bright, clean images? Or do they have a soft romantic look… chances are they have a style they stick to. Ask to see a few full wedding galleries, this will give you a look at the photographers skill and image quality… not just the best of the best that is shown on their website.
Personality & Experience
You will be spending a big chunk of your wedding day with your photographer. It is important to choose someone who you feel you will get along well with. Your photographer will be fixing hair, dresses and veils, holding flowers and wrangling even the rowdiest of family members, make sure to choose someone you feel confident will interact well with your guests. Is your photographer approachable, professional and down to earth? Chances are your guest will be more relaxed and you will get a better story of your day as apposed to just posed portraits.
How many weddings has your photographer photographed? The more experience, the better the flow of the day will be. Your photographer will know where to be during the ceremony to get the very best images, know how to pose you for the most flattering portraits of everyone!
That’s not to say that if the photographer has fewer weddings they are less experienced… ask if they have worked with or been a second shooter for another wedding photographer… it’s the best way to gain experience.
I know everyone has a budget (I was a bride once upon a time) and every photographer will have a different way of creating their packages. Cost should, in my opinion, not be the 1 deciding factor. Remember that after the food has been eaten, the alcohol drank, the flowers have wilted, the photos will be the one thing you have to remember the day. 25 years down the road these captured memories will be so cherished.
Think about what type of coverage you want… do you want coverage of you getting ready all the way into the reception? Do you want coverage by 1 or 2 photographers? Do you want an engagement session or an album included? Also ask about hidden fees upfront… do they charge for travel? Is it extra to have your images edited? Do you receive print copies or the digital images? Figuring out what you are looking for will help to narrow down your options.
Choosing a photographer is not easy, but if you do your research and go with a style you LOVE you will never regret your choice. I hope this helped with choosing the right Wedding Photographer for your special day!
Grace and Brendan were married on her uncles property in Cawston, BC. It was a beautiful sunny day as they vowed to spend their lives together. May many wonderful years lie ahead.
My awesome second shooter Shelly Cantelo's view ...
Shelly's view again.... gorgeous shot!
I started thinking one day as I was cleaning my house…” I have not yet printed any of this years family photos… it’s been 6 months! I’m a photographer, this is what I’m trying to sell… what is wrong with me?”
How many of the images I delivered on cd were doing just that… sitting on a cd? These days it is all about the new profile picture and the online sharing.. what we are missing is physical proof of our memories. Most of our mothers and grandmothers will have boxes of photos…. A life times worth. Everything we have is online, on a cd, on a computer. But what happens when these things become obsolete? What happens when cd’s become unreadable or just phased out? What happens to our life time of memories?
I decided that I wanted to change that and I can only start through my business.
What if I provided a quality product instead of just images on cd. What if I provided a service to help them choose images and what products they want on their walls and to pass on for generations.
I want to see gorgeous albums of your family on your coffee table. I want to see your kids beautiful smiling faces on a big canvas in the living room. I want to see your favorite wedding photo as an awesome metal print!
From start to finish I will walk you through the process, from choosing outfits for your family, to picking location that will best match the décor in your home ( because these images are your art!), I will help make you feel comfortable and at ease. Once that is over you will come to my studio and view your images…. I will provide refreshments. I will help to choose your favorites and design your product. Beautiful pieces of art to pass down for generations.

Big thank you to my second shooter Brooke Currie
Veronica grew up in Princeton and is planning her wedding in beautiful OK Falls. Since they live in Saskatchewan we had to squeeze in a last minute engagement session. We went to a couple different spots in town while we chatted about what has changed and her lovely fiance, Don was able to see a part of where she grew up!
Congratulations! I am very excited for this weekends wedding!
